City Opera House Announces New Shows

Music, theatre, musical theatre, spoken word and comedian Paul Reiser highlight the upcoming season at the City Opera House in Traverse City. The season officially kicks off in October, though The Brandenburg Festival - featuring all six of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos - takes place June 10.
 
Musical highlights include pop/soul/Broadway vocalist Morgan James, a member of Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, opening the season Oct. 5; The Dustbowl Revival, which mashes together the sounds of New Orleans funk, bluegrass, soul, pre-war blues and roots music, Nov 2; the a capella sounds of VoicePlay from NBC’s The Sing-Off performing holiday songs Dec. 7; Virtuoso violinist Regina Carter playing music made famous by the First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald, in honor of Fitzgerald’s 100th birthday on Feb. 23; the Celtic sound of Runa March 8; and the Vienna Boys Choir March 19.
 
Other shows are the original holiday musical At the Stroke of Midnight on Nov. 24; the skewed holiday mystery Sister’s Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold on Dec. 15; and the return of the National Public Radio program Selected Shorts: Food Fiction. The season closes with comedian Reiser May 4. There are also excursions to the Wharton Center in East Lansing for Love Never Dies and Hamilton.
