City to Host East Side Placemaking Workshop Wednesday

The City of Traverse City will host a community placemaking workshop Wednesday (May 6) focused on the future of the East Side Social District. The workshop will take place from 6pm to 8pm at Common Good Bakery on East Eighth Street.

The city was recently awarded a $100,000 Community Placemaking Grant from Project for Public Spaces - with support from General Motors - to invest in the East Side Social District near the Eighth/Garfield intersection. The workshop "will help shape a shared vision for enhancing the East Side Social District into a more vibrant, accessible, and welcoming community space," according to a city release.

Community members are encouraged to share their ideas on how the space can better serve residents and businesses. "Participants can expect a fast-paced, engaging, and participatory experience," according to the release. "The workshop will include both indoor discussion and on-site exploration, giving attendees the opportunity to directly interact with the space and contribute ideas in real time. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather."

For those unable to attend the workshop, a user survey is available to take online here.
