Driver Crashes Into Hammond Construction Zone, Abandons Vehicle
The Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office is investigating a driver who crashed into the closed construction zone on Hammond Road and then abandoned the vehicle, with both the car and the construction project left damaged.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene near Three Mile Road at 2:48am Thursday in response to a reported crash. The reporting person had came upon a 2017 Cadillac SUV with substantial damage. Deputies determined the Cadillac's driver drove east on Hammond Road into the construction zone, which is clearly marked as closed.
The driver collided with a road grader, then lost control and struck the new curb being constructed. The damage is estimated at over $1,000. The road grader was not damaged. The Cadillac was missing its entire right rear wheel.
The crash is still an open investigation, according to the Sheriff's Office.
