Emergency Training Exercise Planned Wednesday at TVC
Cherry Capital Airport will conduct a full-scale emergency planning exercise Wednesday involving multiple local departments and agencies from 9am until 11:30am on the airfield. Regular terminal traffic will be maintained during the training, which is meant to simulate an aircraft accident.
The full-scale fire and emergency planning exercise is required to take place under federal regulations. Airport officials and support services including the Pro-Tec Fire Department, Traverse City Fire Department, Traverse City Police Department, Grand Traverse Sherriff’s Office, Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department, Grand Traverse Emergency Management, Grand Traverse Central Dispatch, TSA, FAA, East Bay Ambulance, and Munson Healthcare come together for training and evaluation, according to an airport release.
The objective of the exercise is to "test plans in place for prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and/or recovery," the release states. "The simulation will take place on the grounds of Cherry Capital Airport. Training exercises are the result of simulated acting and role playing."
