Frankfort Film Festival This Week

The 10th annual Frankfort Film Festival takes place Oct. 18-21 at the Garden Theatre in downtown Frankfort. Rick Schmitt, co-owner of the Garden and co-creator of the festival, said this year’s offerings some of the best award-winning films that have been shown at the Sundance Film Festival, Golden Globes, Cannes Film Festival and others. Passes for the four-day film festival are $95 for the entire weekend. Individual tickets for each showing are $10 and can be purchased one-hour in advance of each showing.

In addition to the features, the first-, second- and third-place short films from the Frankfort 48 will also be shown over the weekend. The Frankfort 48 was a filmmaking invitational where aspiring filmmakers were invited to create a three- to five-minute film celebrating the beauty of northern Michigan. Participants had 48 hours to conceive their ideas, scout locations, film, edit, and present their masterpieces. Each team was given three specific things that the films were required to have – the use of a bridge, a scene with an ice cream cone and the phrase “I’ll be back.”
