Hazardous Waste Dropoff Events Set For 2018

Grand Traverse County will hold several household hazardous waste (HHW) dropoff events in 2018.

HHW dropoff events are by appointment only and will be held from 1-7pm on the following Thursdays: April 12, May 10, June 21, and August 9. One Saturday dropoff event will also be held on September 29 from 9am-2pm.

Many household products contain ingredients that when handled and disposed of improperly can cause harm to humans or the environment. Such items accepted for safe disposal through the HHW collection events include oil-based paint, solvents, automotive fluids, household cleaners, lawn and garden chemicals, batteries, and fluorescent lightbulbs, among others. County residents can bring up to 150 pounds of material, at no cost, to any of the five events scheduled in 2018 for disposal. The cost for excess HHW beyond 150 pounds is $1.30 per pound.
