Hofbrau Aims To Break Record For World's Largest Irish Coffee

Hofbrau Steak House & American Grille plans to break the world recorld for largest Irish coffee as part of an evening of St. Patrick's Day festivities Thursday at the Interlochen establishment.

According to owner Brian McAllister, the current world record for the largest Irish coffee is 350 gallons. "We are building one that is 550 gallons," he says. "We filled out our application for the Guinness World Book of Records." Hofbrau's coffee cup (pictured) is seven feet tall and measures six-and-a-half feet across. Hofbrau is partnering with local coffee roaster Higher Grounds Trading Company on the attempt. McAllister says the beverage will contain 412 gallons of coffee, 69.8 gallons of Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey, 69.8 gallons of cream, and 190 pounds of brown sugar.

In addition to the reveal of the world's largest Irish coffee, Hofbrau will have live music from band StoneFolk Thursday, with other festivities to include a beer hoist competition at 6pm, a cabbage-eating contest at 7pm, and the reveal of the winner to a "Guess the Blarney Stone Winner" contest at 8pm. Customers can stop in to Hofbrau before the winner announcement to guess the stone's weight.
