Kingsley Area Schools Responds to Threat
Kingsley Area Schools received information that was "deemed to be a credible threat" to the safety of students late in the school day Wednesday, according to a district release.
School officials contacted the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office and deployed the district’s evacuation plan. The plan was "followed exactly as outlined in KAS’ emergency preparedness plan, and all students were taken to a safe location," the release states. The Sheriff’s Office investigated the threat and determined there was no evidence of further danger to students and staff.
All buildings within Kingsley Area Schools will be open Thursday.
The Sheriff’s Office was "instrumental in cooperating with staff to move our students to safety," says Superintendent Joshua Rothwell. "I’d like to thank our staff for their calm, supportive actions during this evacuation and reunification. The students were also very cooperative and waited as patiently as possible for us to complete the reunification process. We are excited to return to a sense of normalcy."
Officers will be patrolling all KAS buildings Thursday as a matter of standard protocol, the release states.
