League of Women Voters To Host Info Program On Ballot Proposals

The League of Women Voters Grand Traverse Area, in partnership with the Traverse City Record-Eagle, will host a public information program on local ballot proposals. The event will be held from 6:30pm to 8:00pm on September 15th at the City Opera House in downtown Traverse City. Along with an opportunity to meet with representatives of these taxing jurisdictions.

A full statement from the LWV:

"The next election is on November 3rd. In addition to electing our governor, U.S. senator, and other representatives, voters will decide several local tax proposals that could affect both our wallets and our quality of life in Northern Michigan. The proposals under consideration include Grand Traverse 911 funding, Grand Traverse County Trails Millage, the Grand Traverse Conservation District millage renewal, BATA millage and the downtown Traverse City TIF plan.

Understanding these proposals can be challenging. The language on the ballot is often technical, and impartial information can be difficult to find. To help voters make informed decisions, this presentation will share information on each of the proposals. We will also present information on how to better understand your property tax bills and some voting Ettiquette.

This is not a debate or a forum featuring opposing viewpoints. Instead, each ballot proposal will be explained in clear, factual terms, including what it would do, its expected costs and benefits, and how it could affect a homeowner's tax bill. A question-and-answer session will follow each presentation. Questions may be submitted in advance to info@lwvgta.org or in writing during the event. The program is free and open to the public.
