Leelanau Commissioners Voting on Leland Land Option
Leelanau County commissioners plan to vote today (Tuesday) on offering an 18-month option to Leland Township on a plot of county-owned land adjacent to the township's fire station. The option on a $100,000 purchase price will cost the township $1,000. The deal depends partly on where township officials decide to expand their fire station facilities.
The two options under consideratoin are: Keeping fire halls in both Leland and Lake Leelanau and adding onto the Leland station; or replacing them both with a new building at M-204 and Hoeft Road south of Leland. The township already has an option on the M-204 property for $250,000.
Leland Township officials plan a series of public meetings before selecting an option and putting the project to a millage vote, Township Supervisor Cal Little says.
Some township officials have expressed concern over the price and the possibility of contamination on the site adjacent to the fire station.
