MDOT to Finish Three Mile Project This Week Ahead of Schedule

Crews for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) are expected to finish the US-31/Three Mile Road intersection project as early as Thursday this week, several weeks ahead of schedule.

The $1.9 million project in East Bay Township to make improvements to the US-31/Three Mile Road intersection began April 10 and was originally scheduled to be completed by July 2. Work included sidewalk and traffic signal improvements, a second westbound left-turn lane, and alignment of the Traverse City State Park Beach driveway with the northbound approach of the intersection. Realignment of the access drive with the Three Mile Road intersection is intended to improve traffic flow entering and exiting the beach day-use area parking lot.

According to MDOT, as soon as the work at the intersection is completed, the new traffic signal on US-31 at the entrance to Traverse City State Park will be in full service. The new signal has been operating in flash mode since May 15. The new signal has pushbuttons for pedestrians to activate the crosswalk signals.
