‘Nighttime Detour’ Announced For US-31 Next Week

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced a “nighttime detour” for US-31 in Traverse City next week. DTE Energy will be installing new gas lines underneath US-31 between Milliken Road and Fair Street, necessitating 7pm-7am closures to that small section of road starting on the evening of Monday, August 24 and concluding Friday morning, August 28.

Fair Street, for reference, is the road that runs along the east side of the Grand Traverse County Civic Center, connecting to College Drive at the intersection with US-31.

On Monday and Tuesday, the gas line work “will require closing the westbound outside lane of US-31,” though the rest of the road will remain open. On Wednesday and Thursday nights, the project will require a total closure of US-31, detouring traffic to Garfield and Eighth Street.

All work will be done at night, and the road will be completely open to traffic each day between 7am and 7pm.
