NMC Approves New Budget, Tuition Rate Increases
The Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) Board of Trustees approved both a balanced budget and new tuition rates for the 2023-24 school year at their meeting on Monday.
The changes include a 3 percent increase on in-district tuition rates (up to $122 per contact hour) and a 6 percent increase in out-of-district and out-of-state tuition. General fees will also increase, from $32 per contact hour to $33. According to NMC, the tuition hikes will mean an increase in $120 a year for the average in-district student taking two semesters worth of classes, including $96 more in tuition and $24 more in fees.
In a press release announcing the new tuition rates, NMC President Nick Nissley noted that the tuition increases are both below the rate of inflation and less than last year’s 5 percent tuition hike.
