Old Mission Receives Charter Authorization

The Old Mission Peninsula Education Foundation received authorization Friday from Grand Valley State University to operate Old Mission Peninsula School as a K-6 charter school beginning in fall 2018.

"Grand Valley State University is proud to authorize Old Mission Peninsula Community School," Dr. Rob Kimball, Associate Vice President for Charter Schools at GVSU, said in a statement. "We know the whole community has a deep commitment to making sure a quality public school exists on the Peninsula. The founding group’s dedication and credentials were impressive, and we have high confidence in their ability to achieve great things for kids in the coming years.”

OMPEF President Allison O'Keefe said the group was "so excited to be welcomed into the GVSU family of charter schools. We are confident that our new school will contribute to GVSU's vision to authorize the highest performing charter schools in the state."

According to OMPEF, as a charter school "Old Mission will experience a community atmosphere with small class sizes, using the EL curriculum where students think critically, produce high quality work and take active roles in their classrooms and communities." The organization is hosting its next community fundraising event August 12 at the Old Mission Lighthouse Park from 5pm to 8pm. More info is available here.
