TC Man Arrested for Possessing Child Sexual Abuse Material

Jason Wayne Redman, a 55-year-old Traverse City man, has been arrested after authorities seized electronic devices containing approximately 8,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse material.

According to the Traverse City Police Department, detectives met in February with the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit. During the meeting, detectives were informed about several tips received through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding suspected child sexual abuse material.

"According to the information provided, the tips indicated that the suspected activity was linked to an individual believed to be operating within the city limits of Traverse City," said the TCPD, with an investigation later identifying the suspect as Redman.

Detectives obtained search warrants for Redman's residence and business in downtown Traverse City. The search warrants were executed on May 8. "During the search, detectives seized numerous electronic devices, which were submitted for forensic examination to the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit," the TCPD said. "Investigators also recovered an unregistered and undocumented firearm."

The forensic examination of the seized electronic devices identified approximately 8,000 images and videos of suspected child sexual abuse material. Redman was arrested Wednesday at his business, taken into custody without incident, and lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail.

According to 86th District Court records, Redman is facing five felony charges that include possessing child sexual abuse material plus computer and weapons crimes. He is also charged with one misdemeanor weapons charge. He was arraigned Thursday and has a probable cause conference scheduled for August 4.
