TC Man Arrested After Standoff

A 34-year-old Traverse City man was arrested Tuesday following an hours-long standoff with authorities in the Cherryland Mobile Home Park.

Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a residence in the park at 1pm after a family member reported the man was making suicidal statements. Deputies made telephone contact with the man and attempted to get him to leave his home, but he refused to depart the residence.

As deputies were maintaining perimeter positions around the home, the man exited and pointed a handgun at a deputy. The deputy discharged his weapon at the man, causing the subject to retreat back into his residence. Deputies were able to reestablish contact with the man, who reported he had not been injured in the shooting.

Several residents of the mobile home park were evacuated during the standoff. Finally, at 5:20pm, the man was taken into custody without any further incident. He was transported to Grand Traverse County Jail and lodged on a felonious assault charge. Residents of the mobile home park who were displaced during the standoff were allowed to return home following the man's arrest.
