TC Man Faces Charges After Disturbance At Nursing Facility

The Leelanau County Sheriff's Office is seeking charges against a 24-year-old Traverse City man after a disturbance at Orchard Creek Facility - a nursing and assisted-living facility - in Elmwood Township.

Deputies responded to a reported disturbance at Orchard Creek on Wednesday at 7:40pm and found a male suspect yelling at an elderly woman near the front door of the facility. The man appeared to be intoxicated and was acting erratically and yelling and screaming. A deputy attempted to place the man under arrest for disorderly conduct, but the suspect began struggling. Tribal police officers arrived to assist, with the suspect kicking one tribal officer in the face, breaking the officer's glasses.

Deputies eventually arrested the suspect and began transporting him to Leelanau County Jail. During the transport, the suspect told deputies he had consumed cocaine. Deputies diverted to Munson Medical Center to admit the suspect for treatment. A report has been sent to the Leelanau County Prosecutor's Office seeking criminal charges against the man for resisting and obstructing police and disorderly conduct.
