TCPD Investigates Two Suicides
The Traverse City Police Department investigated two apparent suicides Thursday afternoon, one of which occurred in a public park and the other in a local motel.
Officers were dispatched to Hickory Hills to conduct a welfare check on a 24-year-old Canton man. Officers were able to locate the man's vehicle, but could not find the individual. As a K-9 was being brought in to help track the man, a citizen called 911 and reported finding the man's body on top of a ski slope. The man had died of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. No foul play is suspected, and the man's next of kin have been notified.
Officers also responded to a call regarding an occupant of the Sierra Motel on Munson Avenue. The caller stated that an 83-year-old man had rented a hotel room for one night and had not checked out. Staff found the man unresponsive in his room. Responding officers and EMS determined the man was dead by suicide, ruling out foul play. The man's next of kin have been notified.
