Texas Man Arrested for Interlochen ATM Robbery

A 25-year-old Texas man, Laterrian Sharon Jones, has been arrested on seven felony charges in relation to a January robbery of an Interlochen bank ATM.

According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office, deputies responded on January 10 at 2:10am to an ATM alarm at the bank. The ATM had been damaged and pulled from its secured pedestal by chains attached to a truck so the suspect could access the money inside the machine.

Investigators obtained and executed search warrants for rental car businesses and cell phone information, "while also gathering evidence from private businesses and reviewing surveillance footage," according to the Sheriff's Office. "As the investigation developed, detectives expanded their efforts beyond the local area."

Surveillance videos from businesses in other states were reviewed, as was license plate data "to identify vehicles and individuals potentially connected to the theft," according to the Sheriff's Office. Investigators worked with federal law enforcement agencies as well as state agencies in Texas and California. The investigation eventually led to the arrest of Jones.

Jones is facing a seven-count case for safe breaking, larceny of $20,000 or more, three counts of larceny of firearms, unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle, and weapons felony firearm. With assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, he was transported to Traverse City and is now in the Grand Traverse County Jail.
