Three Leelanau Arrests In One Night

The Leelanau County Sheriff's Office arrested three suspects during separate incidents Wednesday night.

On Wednesday at 5:28pm, the 911 dispatch center received a report of a white van driving north erratically on Eagle Highway. Deputies located the van in Suttons Bay Township traveling on North West Bay Shore Drive. A traffic stop was made, and the driver was identified as a 40-year-old Lake Ann man. The driver appeared confused and disoriented. An investigation was conducted, and the driver was determined to be under the influence of several medications, which he had taken at another location. The driver was placed under arrest for driving while impaired by drugs. He was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail.

At 10:06pm, deputies responded to a fight in progress in Leland near the Early Bird. Deputies arrived to find a male and female arguing. It was determined the female, who appeared intoxicated, had driven to Leland after several stops at various wineries. After an investigation, the 25-year-old Millington (Michigan) woman was placed under arrest for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. During her arrest, the female kicked the arresting deputy. She was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail on OWI and resisting-and-obstructing charges.

At 10:36pm, the 911 dispatch center received a report of a erratic driver on Bugai Road near East Fouch Road. A deputy eventually located the vehicle, a 2010 Toyota, on South Lake Leelanau Drive near Morio Road in Suttons Bay Township. The deputy saw the car swerving all over the road and conducted a traffic stop. By the time the deputy walked up to the Toyota, the female driver was slumped over in the driver's seat. The deputy smelled alcohol immediately; once the driver was awakened, she was slurring her speech badly. After an investigation, the 22-year-old Houston driver was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Her blood alcohol content (BAC) was over three times the legal limit to drive, according to the Sheriff's Office.
