Traverse City Design Week Returns In October
Traverse City Design Week returns for its second year October 4–10, inviting Northern Michigan to look at design not simply as something we see, but as something that shapes how we live, work, gather, and imagine what comes next. This year’s theme, Design Outside the Box, asks what becomes possible when we approach familiar challenges with fresh eyes.
At the center of the week is the VoxBox, a shipping container transformed into an interactive public design studio at the corner of 8th & Wellington. Throughout the festival, ten local designers will open the doors to their temporary studio, inviting the community inside to ask questions, explore real-life design challenges, and engage directly with the people shaping the visual and built landscape of the region.
The VoxBox is supported by the MEDC Growth Office through its Make/Shift Pitch Haus grant, a
pilot program designed to amplify Michigan makers who shift culture. Traverse City Design
Week was one of four Michigan organizations selected to receive a $25,000 grant to bring Pitch
Haus—a “mobile, multi-functional creative activation”—into their communities.
That spirit of openness extends throughout Traverse City Design Week. The festival is built
through collaboration, with events proposed and hosted by members of Northern Michigan’s
creative community. Across the week, designers, makers, architects, entrepreneurs, and other
creative voices will come together through talks, tours, hands-on workshops, exhibitions, and
interactive events—offering a broad look at the ideas and people driving design in the region.
The week culminates Saturday, October 10 with a signature closing night event at The
Alluvion at Commongrounds. The evening begins with cocktails, culinary bites, and the 2026
Regional Designer Showcase, bringing the work of local designers into the spotlight. Guests
will then move inside The Alluvion for an evening of live storytelling, music, dance, and
performance featuring Patagonia Senior Art Director Geoffrey Holstad, acclaimed
singer-songwriters Sam & Ruby, MC Skyelea Martin, and special guests. Immersive visuals,
unexpected creative moments, and a room filled with designers, artists, makers, and creative
leaders make the evening a fitting convergence of the community TCDW brings together all
week.
The full event schedule—including VoxBox open hours—will be released in early September.
