Two Arrested For Drunk Driving In Leelanau County

Two individuals were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Leelanau County over the weekend.

Leelanau County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to NJ's Grocery Store in Lake Leelanau on a report of a traffic crash on Friday at 3:10pm. An owner of a Nissan said his car was parked in the store's lot when the driver of another vehicle attempted to pull out from a parking spot and hit his car. The deputy interviewed the other driver, a 54-year-old Lake Leelanau woman, and found she was highly intoxicated. The woman admitted to drinking a fifth of vodka prior to driving to NJ's in an attempt to purchase more alcohol.

The woman performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. She was lodged at the Leelanau County Jail, where her blood alcohol tested nearly three times the legal driving limit.

Also this weekend, the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office arrested a 27-year-old Northport man after he arrived intoxicated in the department's lobby. The man arrived at the lobby Sunday to take a court-ordered PBT test. Correction's staff realized the man had been drinking and notified road patrol. A deputy responded and, after interviewing the man, determined he drove drunk to the Sheriff's Office for his daily PBT test.

The man was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and violating bond.
