Empire Man Arrested After Crashing Car At Homestead Resort

Oct. 1, 2016

A 77-year-old Empire man was arrested Thursday for drunk driving after crashing his BMW into a tree at the Homestead Resort.

Leelanau County Sheriff's Office deputies and Glen Lake Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene of the single-vehicle at 9pm on the resort's Twisted Oak Drive. Authorities determined the car's owner had driven off the roadway while attempting to negotiate a cruve. The car struck a tree head-on, sustaining heavy damage.

The driver was taken to Munson Medical Center with injuries. Further investigation determined the man was intoxicated while operating the vehicle. After he was medically cleared at the hospital, the man was arrested and taken to Leelanau County Jail.
