Nov. 15, 2013

A Leelanau County Sheriff's Office corrections officer was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated with a High Blood Alcohol Content Wednesday night. The 40 year-old man reported to work at 8:00 pm and a supervisor smelled alcohol on his breath. He was immediately taken to an interview room and law enforcement offiers were summoned.

The employee admitted to driving to work from Traverse City after drinking earlier in the day. After showing signs of intoxication and failing field sobriety tasks, the employee was placed under arrest; his Blood Alcohol test results were .24% and .25%.

He is being held in the Leelanau County jail until bond is set and he has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of an agency investigation. He has worked as a corrections officer in Leelanau County for 9 years. His name is being withheld until District Court arraignment Friday.
