NMC Training Agreements Create 93 Jobs

Dec. 18, 2013

Six job training agreements that will create 93 new jobs by 2018 have been approved by Northwestern Michigan College's Board of Trustees.

The agreements range from five to eight years and fully leverage the current allocation of $500,000 available to NMC through the New Jobs Training Program. The funding pays for staff development in new positions paying more than $12.95 per hour. The companies pay for the training provided by NMC and are reimbursed over time as payroll tax dollars are diverted.

Electro-Optics, which first entered into agreement with NMC for jobs training in 2010, has expanded its initial agreement to create 21 new jobs by 2016. Hagerty Insurance also expanded its initial agreement from 2012 to create 31 jobs by 2016.

The other four companies are:
Hayes Manufacturing in Fife Lake (transmission equipment) : 3 new jobs by 2018
Materne North America in Grawn (fruit processing): 17 new jobs by 2016
Skilled Manufacturing in TC (aircraft & motor vehicle parts): 13 news jobs by 2016
TentCraft in TC (textile bag & canvas mills): 8 new jobs by 2016
