Former Sheriff's Sergeant Receives 25 Days In Jail, Probation

Sept. 3, 2016

Former Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office Sgt. Aimee Johnson was sentenced Friday to 25 days in jail, two years of probation and over $1,000 in fines for four charges related to her role in a March 12 altercation at Little Bohemia.

Johnson was found guilty by a jury August 3 on one count each of attempted interference with an electronic device and disorderly behavior and two counts of assault and battery stemming from the incident, in which she and another department employee - Deputy Kenneth Chubb - got into a scuffle with the bar's staff. Chubb was acquitted of charges including assault and battery and disorderly drunk by a jury on June 29, though he received one day of unpaid suspension from the department for misconduct.

Judge Thomas Phillips sentenced Johnson for her convictions Friday in 86th District Court. Because Johnson was a jail sergeant at Grand Traverse County Jail, she will serve out her sentence - with credit for time served - at Charlevoix County Jail. Johnson resigned from the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office last month.
