Two Teens Killed In US-131 Crash

July 29, 2016

Two teenagers were killed in a car crash at the intersection of US-131 and M-186 in Fife Lake Township Thursday.

The Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office and Fife Lake emergency crews responded to the scene of the two-vehicle accident at 5:50pm. Witnesses stated a passenger car attempted to cross the intersection westbound from State Street onto M-186 when it was struck by a southbound semi-truck pulling an empty gravel trailer. The truck was driven by a 54-year-old Whittemore man. He was not injured in the crash.

The passenger car was occupied by two female teenagers. Both girls were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Deputies Thursday night were still working to identify the victims and notify next of kin. According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office, "there isn't any indication that alcohol is a factor in the crash." The accident remains under investigation.
