Two Traverse City Law Firms Merging

Two longtime Traverse City law firms will merge, The Ticker has learned. Kuhn, Darling & Quandt and Calcutt Rogers & Boynton will come together effective August 1; the new firm will be called Kuhn Rogers PLC. As a part of the merger, attorneys Terry Rogers, Gregory Jenkins and Christopher Rogers will join the new firm; Jack Boynton will become "of counsel" to the firm; William Calcutt will retire.

The merger will bring Kuhn Rogers' stable of attorneys to 14. Kuhn, Darling & Quandt's Joe Quandt says "the merger will alow us to offer some concentrated expertise in estate planning, business succession planning, trust and litigation work." 

The combined firm will operate out of Kuhn, Darling & Quandt's offices on South Union, where the firm built a new building in 2001. 

Quandt says the merger came about "through a confluence of circumstances," including the appointment of former partner James Boyd as a federal bankruptcy judge in recent months. He says " we looked around at who we respect and who would be compatible with us to help enrich our practice and give us some additional areas where we can expand services to existing and prospective clients."

The two firms have long local histories; John Patchin and Charlie Menmuir founded the present day Kuhn firm in 1892, while the Calcutt firm dates back to 1934.
