Woman Jumps From Condo Window, Arrested

Sept. 1, 2015

A Traverse City woman whose boyfriend accused her of domestic violence ran to her bedroom to avoid police and jumped head-first from a window when officers broke down the door.

The 37-year-old jumped from either a second-story or third-story window Friday on the 200 block of Midtown Drive and landed on a deck, causing multiple fractures to her shoulders and collarbone, Traverse City Police Department Interim Chief Jeff O’Brien says. Police were called to the woman’s condo at 8:27pm when a man walking his dog heard a couple fighting inside.

When officers arrived, the woman’s 45-year-old boyfriend came out and told them she had asked him to come over and then took his keys and wallet and would not return them; he said she scratched him when he attempted to get them back. Two officers knocked on the woman’s door and when she refused to answer, they broke down the door into the condo. The woman fled to her bedroom, where officers were forced to break down that door, O’Brien says. A third officer outside witnessed the woman jump from the window.

She consented to a PBT and registered a .176 blood alcohol level. She was taken to Munson Medical Center and was expected to be charged with domestic violence.
