Body Found By Boardman River

March 9, 2017

The body of a deceased male was recovered by authorities on the bank of the Boardman River Wednesday.

A canoer on the river called 911 shortly after noon Wednesday to report spotting the body on the east bank of the river near the South Y YMCA facility off South Airport Road in Garfield Township. Due to the body's location in a densely wooded marsh area difficult to access by land, a Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office team was dispatched by boat to retrieve the body.

The victim was found clothed in winter apparel. His cause of death and identity have not yet been determined. An autopsy will take place in Kalamazoo, with pathology staff at Western Michigan University assisting in the investigation.
