Child & Family Services, Third Level to Merge

Nov. 21, 2013

Two northwest Michigan human services organizations will combine services by the end of the year. Pending legal approvals, Third Level Crisis Intervention Center programming will continue under the auspices of Child and Family Services.

Both organizations help with the healing and growth of children, youth, adults and families through similar missions and service areas and have long histories in the community. Both also have "a need to reduce costs," notes Child and Family Services CEO Jim Scherrer.

"This new partnership will strengthen both agencies' programs, making it better for those we both serve," says Third Level Executive Director Ken Homa. All Third Level programs will continue as they currently exist. All administrative, human resources and development functions will be conducted by Child and Family Services. Members of Third Level's board of directors will be invited to join the Child and Family Services board to govern both organizations.

Scherrer will remain CEO of the organization. Homa says his future will not be with the new organization.

"I will be moving on and I have no plans at this time," Homa tells The Ticker.
