Interlochen Public Radio Gets New Focus, Reorganization

July 30, 2014

Interlochen Center for the Arts has announced changes to its Interlochen Public Radio (IPR) stations and that longtime General Manager Thom Paulson will step aside. An Interlochen press release notes new “institution-wide strategies to build and engage new generations of public media users and listeners.”

Interlochen’s goal with the changes is to connect its varied audiences around the world to its arts programming; updated websites now feature online streaming of live programs and webcasts, downloadable music playlists, expanded news stories that include video and photography, and more.

President Jeffrey Kimpton said, “Thom Paulson, our long-standing general manager, has expressed it is time to step aside to make room for a new generation of leadership.”

Paulson has worked at IPR since1976; Kimpton says Paulson has been asked to stay on as a classical music host and for special projects. The search for a new general manager is underway, with the goal of having new leadership in place by January 2015.

IPR operates a classical music station at 88.7FM and a news station at 91.5FM.
