Lewis Says He Won't Run For Mayor or City Commission This Fall

Traverse City Mayor Richard Lewis has announced he will not seek another term this fall.

At the end of Monday's city commission meeting, during which commissioners typically provide any updates or announcements they have to share, Lewis said he will "not be a candidate this fall for any position for the city commission," which includes the mayoral seat. Lewis then concluded the meeting with no further comment.

According to City Communications Specialist Colleen Paveglio, Mayor Pro Tem Amy Shamroe is the only candidate to date who has submitted papers to run for mayor in the November election. Lewis is among three other candidates who took out nominating packets but have not turned in paperwork to officially run. The others include Caroline Kennedy and Ty Schmidt.

Nomination packets for those wishing to run for mayor or city commission have been available since May 15. Petitions and other required documentation are due back to the city clerk by 4pm on Tuesday, July 25.
