Pedestrian Injured In Barlow Street Accident

A 51-year-old Traverse City woman was injured in a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Barlow Street Monday night.

The accident occurred just before 8pm near the U.S. Post Office branch on Barlow north of South Airport Road. A southbound vehicle driven by a 40-year-old Traverse City man struck the woman, who was in the roadway at the time of the accident. The woman, who was alert and talking to emergency responders at the accident scene, was taken to Munson Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The driver, who was not injured in the collision, was given a PBT as a standard course of procedure; he showed no alcohol content. The accident remains under investigation.

The collision follows a fatal pedestrian-vehicle crash on the same stretch of Barlow three weeks ago. In that case, a 61-year-old Traverse City man was crossing the road at 6:30pm when he was struck and killed by a vehicle. The street was unlit and did not have pedestrian crossings or markings in that area. The driver in that case was not found to be at fault.
