Biosolids Accidentally Released Into Boardman Lake

Aug. 21, 2014

Approximately 200 gallons of biosolids (treated digester sludge) was accidentally released from the Traverse City sewage plant Wednesday night into the north end of Boardman Lake. As a precautionary measure, officials advise against any body contact in the north end of Boardman Lake, the Boardman River from the plant to Grand Traverse Bay and the beaches from Clinch Park to Bryant Park. The city's drinking water supply has not been affected by the leak, as that water is sourced from East Grand Traverse Bay. Testing of the affected waters will begin today (Thursday).
