Dougherty Mission House Gets Restoration Grant

June 25, 2013

The Peter Dougherty Society has received a $157,000 challenge grant from the Jeffris Family Foundation to help fund the restoration of the historic Dougherty Mission House on the Old Mission Peninsula and establish it as a museum. The challenge grant is provided on a 1-for-2 match basis and kicks off a three-year capital campaign to raise $314,000.

Built by the Reverend Peter Dougherty in 1842, this house was the focus for religious observances, schooling, farming, trading and medical care for the Native Americans residing on the northern tip of what is now the Old Mission Peninsula.
