History Center Archives Moved To Library

Feb. 13, 2016

The region's history archives were transferred Friday from the History Center of Traverse City to Traverse Area District Library.

A volunteer crew from Team Elmers helped History Center and TADL volunteers move the collection of photographs, diaries, films and other pieces of history to the library. History Center Board Chair Stephen Siciliano announced in November that the organization was transferring ownership of its archives to TADL, explaining that "we do not have the resources to care for the center archives at the level of quality that we have provided since the establishment of the center."

The archives will continue to be accessible to researchers and other members of the public. TADL Librarian Amy Barritt says she and a History Center board member will give a free presentation on the archives' contents and how the community can access them on Sunday, February 21 at 2pm at the library.
