Two TC Hotels Fall Victim To ATM Heist

May 27, 2017

Authorities are investigating the theft of ATM machines from two Traverse City area hotels Friday.

According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office and Traverse City Police Department, a man went to two different hotels - which were not identified by authorities - and told employees he was a service repair technician. He informed staff that the ATM machines were outdated and that he needed to replace them with current technology. The man wheeled out the ATM machines from the hotels - one in Traverse City and one in East Bay Township - and left behind crates (pictured) that appeared to contain the new machines. The crates, however, were empty.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6'2", 280 pounds, with glasses and a dark beard and hair. He was wearing a dark blue work uniform and a baseball hat and was driving a dark-colored early to mid-2000s four-door Chevrolet pick-up truck. Surveillance footage of the man is available online here. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact authorities at 231-922-4550 or file an anoymous report at 231-947-TIPS.
