Vasa Weekend Starts Tomorrow, Volunteers Still Needed

A few good volunteers are still needed for the 2016 North American Vasa Festival of Races this weekend, Feb. 12-14, at Timber Ridge Resort in Traverse City. Jobs include packing skier registration bags, snowmobile crossing guards, snowmobile drivers, trail guides, awards table assistance and clothing bag drop. In addition to the main event – the 27k and 50k freestyle and classic races on Sat., Feb. 13 – other Vasa weekend highlights include:

– Vasa Pasta, a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Fri., Feb. 12, 5-8pm, at Timber Ridge Resort. $10 adults, $5 kids.

– The Short's Short Tour, an untimed tour for those who like to ski but not race. The pace will be perfect for beginners as well as causal skiers. Starts at 1pm on Sat., Feb. 13.

– Junior Vasa, classic and freestyle skiing events for children ages 5-12. All races held on Sat., Feb. 13.

– 11k and 35k Fat Bike races

– the Gran Travers, a 6k and 16K classic race on Sun., Feb. 14
