WLDR Drops Country, Brings Back Adult Contemporary

Oct. 24, 2014

Local radio station WLDR has dropped its country music format. Sunny Country 101.9 is now 101.9 The Bay in Traverse City and has switched its music format to Adult Contemporary. The change ends 10 years as a country music station.

"Country is a fantastic format," says station general manager David Barr. "Unfortunately it's the kind of music that doesn't have mass appeal in offices and retail stores. Since we dropped Adult Contemporary a decade ago, there has been a hole in Traverse City for that type of music."

According to a post on Sunny Country's Facebook page yesterday afternoon, the country station will return: "Folks, while Sunny Country has moved from the 101.9 position, it will return shortly! Stay tuned for its new home!"
