Arts for All Shutting Down After 27-Year Run

By Beth Milligan | Oct. 11, 2023

The nonprofit Arts for All of Northern Michigan is shutting down after a 27-year run at the end of the November, with the organization citing "significant funding challenges that have made continuing our programs and services untenable."

Executive Director Val McCarthy and the Arts for All board released a statement Wednesday saying that "with heavy hearts, we announce we will close our doors at the end of November 2023. This decision was not made lightly. We explored every possible avenue to sustain our operations, but the financial obstacles proved insurmountable. We want to express our deepest gratitude to every participant, volunteer, donor, and supporter who has been part of our journey. You have been the heartbeat of Arts for All, and the memories we created together will forever be cherished."

Arts for All provides "access and inclusive opportunities for children and adults with and without disabilities to experience and grow through the arts," according to the organization's website. It has served more than 5,000 individuals during its tenure.

"We understand the impact of this announcement and want to assure you that we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for everyone involved," the statement from McCarthy and the board reads. "We'll miss the vibrancy, creativity, and warmth that each of you brought into our space. Thank you for sharing your art, spirit, and support with us. While our doors may be closing, the impact of our work together will resonate in our community for years to come."
