Body Washes Up On Old Mission Peninsula

The body of a 42-year-old Leelanau County woman was discovered washed up on an Old Mission Peninsula beach Wednesday.

The body of Elaine Grace Silva was discovered by nearby residents at around 10:30am north of Swaney Road on a West Grand Traverse Bay beach in the north section of Peninsula Township. There were no recent signs of trauma to the body, according to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office. Authorities believe Silva may have died in a different jurisidiction and was carried by the water to Old Mission. Silva's body has been sent to a pathologist in Kalamazoo for an autopsy to help determine a cause of death.

The Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office is cooperating with the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office, Grand Traverse Band Tribal Police, the Michigan State Police, and the FBI on the investigation.
