Breast Cancer Awareness Month Events At Munson

Munson Healthcare Regional Cancer Network will host and promote several events in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. From 6 – 7:30pm on Oct. 10, “Understanding the Challenges of Metastatic Breast Cancer” will feature Lisa Hughes, D.O., and Jacki Lasich, L.M.S.W., CTP, OSW-C. A provider and patient panel will discuss issues related to metastatic breast cancer patients. 

On Oct. 14, the 29th Annual Recovery Plus event features a day of pampering and education for breast cancer survivors from 8:30am-2pm at Traverse City Elks Club. On Oct. 19, the Young Survival Coalition Support Group will host “Understanding the Surgical Options and Outcomes Associated with Breast Cancer” from 6-7:30pm. Speakers are plastic surgeons Christopher LaFond, M.D., and Christopher C.  Jefferies, M.D. Young survivors with breast cancer will share their personal journeys with surgery.

 “What You Need to Know About Breast Cancer Now” will be offered from 6-7:30pm Oct. 24. Speakers include radiologist Leah Carlson, M.D., on the Importance of breast screening mammography and 3D tomosynthesis, oncology dietitian Natalie Brehm, R.D., on the healthy cancer-fighting kitchen, and certified cancer exercise specialist Annemarie Wigton on the role of exercise in preventing breast cancer.” Register by calling 800-533-5520 or click here. With the exception of the event at the Elks Club, all the events are free and take place in the Cowell Family Cancer Center’s Basement Room, located at 217 S. Madison St. in Traverse City.
