City Doubles Parking Garage Rates

June 11, 2013

The Traverse City Commission has approved a proposal by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to double transient parking rates in public decks in downtown Traverse City. Beginning July 1, rates will increase on a year-round basis in the Larry C. Hardy Parking Deck and Old Town Parking Deck from 50 cents an hour to $1 an hour, with a maximum per-day charge increase from $5.00 to $10.00. DDA Executive Director Bryan Crough said the city currently gives up over $33,000 every year in order to offer free parking in the decks, and that the increased rates will help offset the lost revenue, cover rising system costs and fund DDA improvement projects.

Free parking will still be available on weekends, and after 5 p.m., from September to May.
