Commissioners to Consider Washington Street Driveway

June 22, 2015

Traverse City commissioners will consider a request tonight (Monday) from the developer of the Washington Place project to add a new driveway on Washington Street.

Tom McIntyre is requesting an amendment to his development agreement with the city to add the curb cut, which would overlap the street's north sidewalk and eliminate some on-street parking spaces. The city's board of zoning appeals narrowly approved the request by a 5-4 vote in May after McIntrye said the driveway was necessary to access second-floor parking in the development. The granted variance was contigent upon approval from the city commission, as well as an agreement from McIntyre to provide four public parking spaces on-site to compensate for the eliminated street parking.

Traverse City commissioners meet at 7pm at the Governmental Center. Because the meeting is a study session, commissioners won't formally vote on the request tonight but will instead provide staff with direction on whether to bring it back for action at an upcoming meeting.
