Derenzy Named Executive Director of Elk Rapids Chamber

By Beth Milligan | June 27, 2024

Jean Derenzy, who recently stepped down as CEO of the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority (DDA), has accepted a position as the new executive director of the Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.

Derenzy will step into her new role effective September 1. She has long-time ties to Elk Rapids, having grown up in the village and graduated from Elk Rapids High School. Derenzy's daughter also attended Elk Rapids Schools.

"Elk Rapids is a very special place for me," Derenzy said in a statement. "I have deep roots in the community. I am very excited about the opportunity to return to my hometown as the executive director of the Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. I look forward to working with the chamber board and staff as well as with all the other organizations as we move the community forward.”

According to Chamber board president Gene Davis, the board is "confident we have found the right person to fill this important position. We look forward to welcoming Jean into this role as she brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective. Her tenure as the CEO of the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority and her many years of experience at Grand Traverse County will be of great assistance as she leads our chamber forward."

Derenzy left the TC DDA earlier this year after six years as CEO. The DDA board will interview two candidates Friday at 8am to fill her position.
