Driver Arrested After Spotted Holding Open Whiskey Bottle

Dec. 2, 2016

A 27-year-old Alanson woman was arrested Wednesday in Garfield Township after drivers called 911 to report seeing the woman holding an open whiskey bottle while driving her car.

Two callers contacted 911 and reported the woman's vehicle. In addition to carrying an open bottle of whiskey, the woman was also seen striking a curb. Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office eputies were dispatched to the area of North Keystone and Birmley roads at noon and located the woman's vehicle. A traffic stop was made on the car. While talking to deputies, the woman was "swaying, staggering and smelled very (strongly) of intoxicants," according to a department report.

Deputies arrested the woman for having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. She also faces charges of operating while impaired third offense and driving with a suspended license second offense.
