Driver Killed in Peninsula Township Crash

A car accident on Center Road near Mapleton Lane in Peninsula Township resulted in the death of one of the drivers Sunday night.

According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office, a 22-year-old Traverse City man was driving south in a Ford F250 and crossed the center line shortly before 10:30pm, striking a Honda CRV. The Ford driver had to be extracted and was taken to Munson Medical Center with injuries. The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The severe accident closed down Center Road for several hours.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by the Michigan State Police.
