For Sale: Timberlee, Blue Goat, Others

May 27, 2016

A former ski resort and an iconic Traverse City wine shop are among notable local businesses now on the market.

Timberlee, located in southern Leelanau County, has hosted concerts by the likes of Badfinger and jazz guitarist Larry Coryell.

The original 200-acre property was once envisioned as a potential “miniVail”; over time several condos and parcels were sold off. “It was one of the original ski hills in the area,” says Kevin Endres of ThreeWest, who is representing the property.

Today the parcel consists of 40.5 acres and a 10,000 square foot lodge. The ski hill was reinvented as a tubing hill.

With its bar, service area and complete kitchen, the lodge has potential for a number of applications, including as a base for catering or events. Timberlee has hosted weddings and/or receptions; owners say there’s opportunity to expand the non-winter side of the business.

Want to develop a ski resort close to Traverse City? Buy Timberlee for the recently reduced price of $999,000.

Owners of The Flower Station at 341 West Front Street say they’re looking to retire. The onetime gas station (hence the name) offers a complete slate of floral and related products.

The property also has a one-car garage, and the business sale would include a delivery vehicle. It is listed for $349,900.

Tilley’s Party Store at 617 Randolph is in the midst of an area undergoing rejuvenation, with a new mixed use building underway next door. The property includes a two-bedroom apartment upstairs. Tilley’s is for sale for $995,000, which includes the store, inventory and property.

The iconic Blue Goat is the area’s oldest wine shop, which makes perfect sense as it is located in one of the city’s oldest buildings at 875 E. Front Street. The building dates back to the 1880s when it was said to have been Traverse City’s first general store. It became the Blue Goat in the 1960s and has kept that name through several owners, except in the late 1990s when it was called the Village Wine Shop. When Ron and Nona White purchased it in 2000 they changed the name back to the Blue Goat.

Ron White, a chaplain for Hospice of Michigan, is also working on his doctorate and writing a book, and is seeking to clear his plate a bit. Pay $189,000 and become the new owner of The Blue Goat and its inventory.

Nick McAllister tells The Ticker he’s decided to sell House Of Doggs, the hot dog eatery located in the Grand Traverse Mall food court. According to an online listing, the business is for sale for $89,000.
