GT Band Distributes Nearly $845K To Local Organizations

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians announced the distribution of $844,873 in gaming revenue allocation to local governments and school districts Friday. The 56 applicants received funding as part of the Tribe's two percent allocation, which takes place twice per year. More than 100 applications were submitted for funding this grant cycle.

Funding for the purchase of a new Rapid Response Vehicle that will allow Beaver Island EMS to put a paramedic on-scene within a short period of time when a call is dispatched from 911.

Funding to purchase 800MHz mobile and portable radios for use by corrections personnel so they can stay in contact with central dispatch and the correction’s control center.

Funding for the Native American “Tutoring Program.”

Funding for the Boyne Area Free Clinic, Inc., which provides free care for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Northern Michigan.

Funding for the Joppa House Ministry program that addresses homelessness and underemployment.

Funding for the Recreation Department of the City of Charlevoix to provide scholarships of various recreational programs (summer camp, ski/snowboard lessons, flag football, tennis lessons and t-ball) to qualifying children.

Funding for a combination tool that will be used to extricate patients from vehicles involved in traffic collisions where access to the patient needs to be made by forcing open a door.

Funding for a “joint sidewalk project” for the community, which will provide a safe walkway to three major businesses on the north end of the community, and to parallel the ideals of the designated “Trails Town.”
